Alan Burdick worked on finishing his second nonfiction book, Why Time Flies: A Mostly Scientific Investigation, about the biology and perception of time, which was published in 2017 by Simon & Schuster. His first book, Out of Eden: An Odyssey of Ecological Invasion, was a National Book Award finalist in 2005.

Alan Burdick worked in the Mansfield studio.

The Helen Coolidge Mansfield Studio was donated by graduates of the Mansfield War Service Classes for Reconstruction Aides. Helen Mansfield helped found the New York MacDowell Club.
