Alex Halberstadt is the author of Lonely Avenue, about the rock and roll songwriter Doc Pomus, and Young Heroes of the Soviet Union, a family memoir, forthcoming from Random House. His feature writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, GQ, Food & Wine and elsewhere. He was nominated for a James Beard Award in 2013 and 2014; his writing is included in Best Food Writing 2014. He teaches at Eugene Lang College and the Gallatin School at NYU.

Marian MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his life.
