Fiction writer Allegra Goodman’s novels include Sam, Intuition, The Cookbook Collector, and Kaaterskill Falls (a National Book Award finalist). Sam was published in January 2023 and was a Read with Jenna selection and a New York Times bestseller. She will be a Hadassah-Brandeis Institute Fellow in fall of 2023.

Her fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Commentary, and Ploughshares and has been anthologized in The O. Henry Awards and Best American Short Stories. Her essays and reviews have appeared in The New York Times Book Review, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. The Last Grownup, a story from her ongoing story cycle was published in The New Yorker February 2023.

While at MacDowell, Goodman completed final revisions of a new novel scheduled for publication in 2025.

Allegra Goodman worked in the Phi Beta studio.

Funded by the Phi Beta Fraternity, a national professional fraternity of music and speech founded in 1912, Phi Beta Studio was built between 1929–1931 of granite quarried on the MacDowell grounds.
