Andrés Jurado is a Colombian artist, filmmaker, researcher, and producer who navigates the frontiers of experimental and expanded cinema to challenge propaganda, colonial legacies, and politics of memory. As co-director of La Vulcanizadora, a dynamic film and theater laboratory in Santa Marta, they blend theory and practice to uncover alternative narratives hidden in archives, counter-archives, and contemporary art.
His films have earned international visibility: El Renacer del Carare won a Special Mention at the 31st FIDMarseille and the Audience Award at the Panorama de Cinema Colombiano in Paris. Yarokamena premiered at the 72nd Berlinale: Forum Expanded, securing an Honorable Mention at DocLisboa. His latest work, Welcome Interplanetary and Sidereal Space Conquerors, debuted at FIDMarseille 2024.
In recognition of his contributions to experimental cinema, they received the Joaquim Jordá Grant in 2025 from Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, DocLisboa, and FIDMarseille. Beyond his own filmmaking, Jurado has participated in significant initiatives such as Traces of Disappearance with Forensic Architecture, and produced award-winning films including Maria Rojas’s Abrir Monte as well as Tarro Vacío and La Trampa by Vitilio and Ferney Iyokina.
At MacDowell, Jurado worked on his forthcoming film Headhunter, which highlights the Amazon region and its native forests. Working across documentary, fiction, and experimental cinema, the project explores rumor and otherness, the legibility of the “other,” and techno-colonialism.
