Andrés Carrizo, born in Panama City, Panama and now living in Colorado, is a composer, pianist, and arranger who enjoys producing work that is polystylistic and collaborative in nature. He has a Ph.D. in music composition from the University of Chicago, once studied under Gerardo Gandini while living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has served as a diplomat to his home country.

During his Fellowship at MacDowell, Andrés completed a large-scale orchestral arrangement for an orchestra in Panama. He also completed a movement for a larger suite for his Colorado Springs-based ensemble, SonLingua. In accordance with his preferred style, the movement is a collaboration with q'anjob'al poet Sabino Esteban Francisco, an ethnic Maya poet who writes in his native tongue.

Andrés Carrizo worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
