Arturo Soria is an Obie Award-winning actor and playwright. Their one-person show, Ni Mi Madre, premiered at Rattlestick Theater in the summer of 2021, earning a New York Times Critic's Pick and nominations for a Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and Drama League Award. It went on to win an Obie Award for Best Performance and received a critically acclaimed production at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Pleasance Theatre.
Currently, Soria is immersed in several new projects: Sin Padre, a solo show commissioned by Rattlestick Theatre; Novios, a play featured in New York Theatre Workshop’s Mondays @ 3 Reading Series; and a screen adaptation of the novel Bodega Dreams for Black Bar Mitzvah Productions, slated to be directed by Ángel Manuel Soto.
They were part of the inaugural TV writing cohort in Lena Waithe’s Hillman Grad Mentorship Program and are a proud member of The Actor’s Center in NYC. They hold a M.F.A. from Yale School of Drama and a B.F.A. from The Theatre School at DePaul University.
At MacDowell, Soria worked on two theatrical pieces, a full-length play commissioned by the Lucille Lortel Theater's Alcove New Play Development Program and a solo show commissioned by Rattlestick Theatre in NYC. The solo show received a three-day workshop in January 2025, just prior to his MacDowell residency.
