Brio Marlisa Burgess (1943–2018) was a sculptor and mixed-media visual artist who has produced poetry, plays, paintings, and music. She is the author of the books Street Kids & Other Plays (Angel Enterprises, 1995) and WAIL! (Jacobs Ladder Press, 2002). Her work has been featured in Bay Area Poets Anthology, Open Mic, Poetalk, Outlaw Blues (Tawanna L. Brace Knowles, 1992), and The Butcher's Block Volume 1 (Butchershop Press, 2000).

Marian MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his life.
