Christopher Alan Schmitz‘s solo, chamber, and ensemble compositions have been described as “superbly orchestrated” (Pizzicato), “sublimely gorgeous” (Fanfare), and “pensive... hard-driving... and whimsical” (American Record Guide). Schmitz’s most recent album features the London Symphony Orchestra performing his Symphony No. 1 and Violin Concerto for Navona records (May 2024). He was named a 2025 National Finalist for the American Prize in Orchestral Composition, professional division, for the work.
While at MacDowell, Schmitz began working on a new chamber music composition to be premiered by the Ehnes String Quartet as part of the 2026 Fabian Concert Series in Macon, GA.
