David Hytone received his B.F.A. in fine arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design after studying briefly at the Osaka University of Arts in Osaka, Japan. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions, including shows in Brussels and Ghent, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Portland, Sun Valley, and Des Moines.

A recent visiting artist and lecturer at the Eskanazi School of Art and Architecture at the University of Indiana and Western Washington University, he has work in numerous private and corporate collections including Microsoft, Facebook, Capital One, Swedish hospitals, Hilton, and the permanent collection of King County, WA.

At MacDowell, Hytone developed new themes and approaches for a new body of work that will be displayed in a solo exhibition at the J. Irwin Miller School of Architecture at Indiana University in March of 2025. The first three of these paintings were completed at MacDowell and after their showing in Indiana, will travel with other works to exhibitions in Belgium in September and October of 2025.

Cheney

David Hytone worked in the Cheney studio.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
