Dave Ryan studied experimental film (M.F.A., Ohio University, 1987). His video works gained recognition at festivals and venues focusing on experimental film and video art including The Whitney Museum of American Art, Media City Film Festival, and Locarno Video Festival. He has been making interactive video works since 2003. Recent collaborative works with Mika Negishi Laidlaw and Steve Ryan have been featured at Minneapolis Institute of Art (2016), Nelson-Atkins Museum (Kansas City 2016), and Currents: Sante Fe International New Media Festival (2014, 2017). He currently teaches Digital Media Arts at Hamline University.

In residence, Ryan, completed animation and low-resolution rendering of "Escape Velocity," a film installation. He also continued 3-D modeling and animation of "The Hungering Deep," a short video constructed with 3-D animation tools.
