Deb Margolin is a playwright, actor, and founding member of Split Britches Theater Company. She is the author of 10 solo performance plays, which have toured throughout the US, as well as numerous multi-character plays, including Imagining Madoff, which extended its run through October, 2019 at the Lion Theater, NYC. Deb is working on a solo piece about jokes, inherited from her mother, which limn the history of Jewish diaspora and awkwardness. She is professor of the practice in Yale's undergraduate Theater Studies Program.

During her residency, Deb dug deeply into stories that will comprise her book Index to Idioms, which, using English language idioms, tells the story of a woman's life while bringing literal meaning to the idiom, which so often goes underneath language for its meaning.

Deb Margolin worked in the Calderwood studio.

In the winter of 1998, motivated by his passion for reading, Stanford Calderwood donated funds for a new writers’ studio.
