Eduardo Ángel Aguilar Vásquez is a composer whose music can be “found beyond sound.”

At MacDowell, Aguilar investigated the possibilities of one of his earliest compositions to re-exist as a new audiovisual work. He reflected on the means and modes that the piece might share its natural origin with the most stigmatized Mexican music and rural environments. He investigated his creative process by elaborating on the concepts of memory, idea, imagination, perception, representation, thought, design, and reality.

MacDowell

Eduardo Aguilar worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
