Fernando Guzzoni (1983, Chile) is a film director and screenwriter. He directed the feature film Carne de Perro (2012), which he wrote during the Cannes Film Festival residency and which won the Best Film Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, as well as the Ingmar Bergman Award at the Göteborg Film Festival, among others. In 2016, he premiered his second feature film, Jesús, at the Toronto International Film Festival and in the Official Competition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival. In 2022, he premiered his latest film, Blanquita, at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Silver Lion for Best Screenplay.
While at MacDowell, Guzzoni completed the final screenplay polish for his upcoming fourth feature film, People Still Die of Love, a dystopian thriller set in a near-future world shaped by corporate power, emotional alienation, and social violence. During the residency, he also worked on the film’s technical script and visual construction ahead of pre-production.
