Flora Carr is the author of The Tower, a feminist retelling of Mary Queen of Scot’s life when she was imprisoned at Lochleven Castle. It was published by Doubleday in the U.S. and Penguin imprint Hutchinson Heinemann in the U.K. and Commonwealth. The London Library named her one of 40 Emerging Writers in 2020/2021, and she is a winner of the prestigious Vogue Talent Contest. Carr was Highly Commended for the Harper’s Bazaar Short Story Prize, and has had articles published in TIME Magazine and The Observer New Review, among others.

While at MacDowell, Carr worked on the first draft of her second novel, set in Edwardian England.

Flora Carr worked in the Sorosis studio.

Sorosis Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small, masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
