Funto Omojola is a poet, performer, and visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY. They have done projects with the Poetry Project, Silver Eye Center for Photography, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and their work has been supported by Millay Arts, Cave Canem Foundation and MASS MoCA. Omojola’s first book is forthcoming from Nightboat Books in fall 2024.

While at MacDowell, they worked on a collection of poems inspired by ile ori, or house of head shrines. In Yoruba cosmology, the inner human head is the container for one’s personal essence, soul, and fortune.

Veltin

Funto Omojola worked in the Veltin studio.

Veltin Studio was donated by alumni of the Veltin School, a school for girls in New York with a highly respected visual arts department. As the plaque just outside the entrance attests, this studio was used by poet Edwin Arlington Robinson during most of the 24 summers he spent at MacDowell.
