Garrett Kim is a writer from North Carolina. He earned his M.F.A. in fiction writing from the University of Virginia where he taught writing and served as Editor-in-Chief of Meridian. He's received scholarships and fellowships from Art Farm Nebraska, CRIT, and The New York State Summer Writers' Institute. His writing can be found or is forthcoming in The Intercept, Booth, No Tokens, and others.
While at MacDowell, Kim worked on his novel-in-progress We're Going to Sing for You, which follows two teenage K-pop stars who learn that their music is being used in a plot to reunify North and South Korea. Previously published excerpts from the novel have been published in No Tokens and Booth. Additionally, he completed edits on an article for The Intercept on Korean POWs subjected to early MK-ULTRA experiments, which was published in April 2026.
