While at MacDowell Ginger Brooks Takahashi worked with Dana Bishop-Root to open a neighborhood grocery store called General Sisters. She also worked with London based artist Sam Ashby on a project called Fire Island Film & Sound, featuring films made on Fire Island from 1960-1980. Brooks Takahashi developed the sound track using a modular synthesizer.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
