Jane Mankiewicz (1950-2026) graduated from the University of Wisconsin and worked in the fiction department at The New Yorker from 1976 to 1984. She loved children and taught in the New York City public schools for Teachers & Writers Collaborative following her departure from The New Yorker. Her stories were published in The New Yorker and The Atlantic, among other places. She was many times a Fellow at MacDowell, a place close to her heart. Jane worked for Cesar Chavez and The Farm Workers in the 1970s and was a dedicated member of The War Resisters League in New York City. She was on the organizing committee at The New Yorker when the staff tried to form a union during the Shawn years. Her stories were particularly known for their depiction of the personal, human side of the Vietnam War protest era.
