Joan Larkin is the author of Blue Hanuman, My Body: New and Selected Poems, and Cold River, among others. She co-edited the groundbreaking collections Amazon Poetry, Lesbian Poetry, and Gay and Lesbian Poetry in Our Time, and has served on several writing faculties, most recently as writer in residence at Smith College.

While at MacDowell, she wrote and revised poetry for inclusion in the now nearly complete manuscript of her seventh book of poems, Three-Inch Day-of-the-Dead Musician. She is a recipient of the Shelley Memorial Award and the Academy of American Poets Fellowship for distinguished poetic achievement.

Irving Fine

Joan Larkin worked in the Irving Fine studio.

Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music. It was renamed Irving Fine Studio in 1972 in honor of Irving Fine, a distinguished composer, conductor, and teacher who was a MacDowell Fellow during the 1940s and 1950s.
