Julie Heffernan worked on a series of paintings about environmental degradation and individual agency for solo exhibitions at Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles (October 2012) and PPOW in New York (May 2013). She is the recipient of a NYFA, NEA and Fulbright Fellowship, and was inducted into the National Academy.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
