Kaleena Miller is a sound-focused dance artist (tap dancer, choreographer, improvisor, educator, deep listener, and administrator) whose work has found form as live performance, video, sound installation, written scores and wood works. Her work has been presented in Minneapolis, St. Paul, New York and Chicago, including commissions from the American Tap Dance Foundation, Cowles Center for Dance and Walker Art Center. Frequently site-specific, her performance works listen deeply to place and self and utilize improvisational scores and composed phrase work to examine embodied knowledge and histories, moving through and sounding out an investigation of the materiality of a sounding dance practice in an effort to understand what we know, do and desire. This work prioritizes a musical and visual landscape that allows and undulates, endeavoring to be a listening practice for all - offering time to let what is known and what could be emerge, coexist, and settle into a new articulation.
While at MacDowell, Miller began work on solo choreographic ideas for a new evening length piece.
