Karen Lewis is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Ohio State University and author of Graphic Design for Architects (Routledge, 2015), one of the publisher's best-performing architecture books of the 21st century.
Her cartographic research and design works have been exhibited at the Center for Architecture in New York, The Newberry Library in Chicago, and The Rumsey Center for Cartography at Stanford University. Lewis’ introduction to spatial mapping began while studying astronomy at Wellesley College, later refined through work in user interface and exhibition design before earning her Master of Architecture at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.
At MacDowell, Lewis spent time analyzing the spatiality of the Underground Railroad. These qualities were assessed and diagrammed using architecture methodologies.
