Kathryn Scanlan is the author of Aug 9—Fog, The Dominant Animal, and Kick the Latch (winner of the 2024 Gordon Burn Prize). Her work has appeared in NOON, Granta, and The Paris Review. In 2021 she received an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in literature; in 2024 she received the Windham-Campbell Prize for fiction. Originally from Iowa, she lives in Los Angeles. She has degrees in painting, writing, and English from the University of Iowa and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

At MacDowell, Scanlan worked on a novel-in-progress.
