Kim Dickey’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Aspen, and Denver, in galleries and museums across the country and around the world. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville; Everson Museum, Syracuse; Museum of Contemporary Art, Honolulu; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, which presented her mid-career retrospective in 2016. Recent commissions for hospitals, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, have reinforced her long-held belief that art can promote healing.
While at MacDowell, Kim Dickey produced a large-scale theatrical backdrop for her sculptural installation "Retreat." During her two-week residency, she conducted daily research in the Baldwin Library that informed the development of the project’s conceptual framework. Dickey also spent time exploring the MacDowell woods, finding inspiration for a series of large-scale black-and-white ink wash drawings completed during her residency. This body of preparatory work laid the foundation for the large ceramic sculptures she produced later that summer which will form the theatrical environment of "Retreat". "Retreat" is tentatively scheduled to be exhibited in 2027 at two venues, including Black Cube in Colorado, curated by Cortney Stell.
