LeVan D. Hawkins is a Chicago-based performer, poet, and writer, formerly of Los Angeles. Hawkins is a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and Antioch University-Los Angeles. He has performed his published work at venues such as Links Hall, Highways Performance Space, USC, UCLA Hammer Museum, Disney Hall Redcat Theater, Henry Miller Library, Dixon Place Theater (NYC), New York International Fringe Festival, and Dartmouth College.

While in residence, he assigned chapters to files, journal entries, and scenes for his memoir, What Men Do. He also rewrote and completed the essay, “A Supa Black Man Moment” and researched Spaulding Gray's solo work, focusing on how to turn “A Supa Black Man Moment” into a solo show.

Phi Beta

LeVan Hawkins worked in the Phi Beta studio.

Funded by the Phi Beta Fraternity, a national professional fraternity of music and speech founded in 1912, Phi Beta Studio was built between 1929–1931 of granite quarried on the MacDowell grounds.
