Lena Moses-Schmitt is a writer and artist. She is the author of the poetry collection True Mistakes (University of Arkansas Press, 2025) which was selected by Patricia Smith for the Miller Williams Poetry series. Her poems, essays, and graphic nonfiction have appeared in The Believer, Best New Poets, Ecotone, Narrative, The Rumpus, The Yale Review, and elsewhere.

At MacDowell, Moses-Schmitt worked on writing and drawing a graphic nonfiction project about cars and driving, a previous selection of which appeared in Ecotone in 2025. She also worked on poems for her second poetry collection.

Studios

Veltin

Lena Moses-Schmitt worked in the Veltin studio.

Veltin Studio was donated by alumni of the Veltin School, a school for girls in New York with a highly respected visual arts department. As the plaque just outside the entrance attests, this studio was used by poet Edwin Arlington Robinson during most of the 24 summers he spent at MacDowell.
