Loyiso Madinga is a South African standup comic, writer and performing artist. His work includes his debut special Born Free-ish (2017) & Long Way From My Village (Netflix, 2019). He was also the first Africa Correspondent for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah (2018) & wrote & performed in the two time Emmy nominated Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola. In their first ever Africa original Loyiso starred in Netflix’s Queen Sono (2019). He has also written music for theatre, Democrazy (2024) & for the TV film, ROSA (2023).
Madinga spent his time at MacDowell working on the first draft of his play The Africa Space Project, a satirical African space musical. He will continue to work on his musical alongside his career as a standup comic in New York City.
