Madeleine Dale is a poet and researcher based in Brisbane, Australia. Her first chapbook, On Fire with Dangerous Cargo, was published by Queensland Poetry in 2023. Her first full-length collection, Portraits of Drowning, won the 2023 Thomas Shapcott Poetry Prize and is forthcoming from University of Queensland Press.

She holds first-class honors and a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Queensland, where her work has focused on ecopoetic representations of the body, and portrayals of war dead in the work of Siegfried Sassoon. She is currently completing a Ph.D. investigating the role of classical reception in contemporary poetics.

While at MacDowell, Dale worked on her second book of poetry, an exploration of the ancient Plague of Athens and its connection to contemporary pandemic.

Sorosis

Madeleine Dale worked in the Sorosis studio.

Sorosis Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small, masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
