marion spencer is a Bessie Award-nominated interdisciplinary dance artist based in Lenapehoking/ Brooklyn. Through a weaving of dance, sound, and installation, spencers's work creates poetic ecosystems within which to wonder, feel, and dream. She makes both solo and ensemble performances that excavate the personal, the systemic, the unknown, the wild, the cellular, and the beautiful.

Her work has been presented in New York by La MaMa Experimental Theatre, Roulette Intermedium, Center for Performance Research, Danspace Project, Gibney, Movement Research at Judson Church, New Dance Alliance, Triskelion Arts, and other venues. She has been an artist in residence at The American Dance Festival, The Chocolate Factory Theater, Gibney, The Field Center, Amherst College, and Mana Contemporary, among others.

At MacDowell, spencer continued developing a solo project emerging as part of a series of solo works excavating lineage, archive, and dreams amidst onrushing climate catastrophe. This research is feminine, feminist, interdisciplinary, and inspired by the act and process of shedding - internal, external, embodied, and archival. This project asks “how do we archive, what must we let go of and what can we still dream for”?
