Maude Mitchell, the senior artistic associate of Mabou Mines, is an actor, dramaturge, adapter, and teacher. She is best known for her performance as Nora in Mabou Mines DollHouse (for which she won an OBIE, Elliot Norton, Back Stage West Garland award, and a Drama League nomination) directed by her late spouse and artistic partner, Lee Breuer. Her dramaturgy includes: MMDH, The Laramie Project, and Un tramway nommé désir (Comédie Française).

At MacDowell in 2014, Mitchell began work on a solo show based on her experiences traveling the globe performing as Nora, as well as interviews conducted with other artists who've played the role worldwide. She shared a studio with Breuer and during their residency, they got married. During her 2017 residency, Mitchell, in collaboration with Breuer and Basil Twist, completed the script editing and staging paradigm for a new adaptation of Medea by Olga Taxidou.

In 2025, she worked on her first original play My Pique-Nique With Maude, inspired by My Dinner with Andre. It is drawn from a series of in-depth conversations with Janet Girardeau about love, grieving, and theater alongside her personal experiences.
