Melissa Ling is a visual artist based in New York City. She was an artist-in-residence at the PS122 project studio program, as well as a recipient of the FST StudioProjects Fund, and The Harpo Foundation Grant for Visual Artists. She was awarded the 2023 Jackson’s Painting Prize and the 2024 Derwent Art Prize’s New Artist Award. Her drawings have been shortlisted for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize in London and she was a finalist for the inaugural K11 Artist Prize in Hong Kong. She received her B.F.A. from Pratt Institute.

While at MacDowell, Ling began a new series of experimental drawings and paintings on paper, drawing inspiration from her sketchbook.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
