Melissa Yancy is the author of the story collection Dog Years, which was the winner of the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, a California Book Award, and longlisted for The Story Prize. Her short fiction has appeared in One Story, The Kenyon Review, ZYZZYVA, Prairie Schooner, The Missouri Review, and many other journals. The recipient of an NEA fellowship, Yancy works and lives in Los Angeles. Her story "Crisis Actors," which won the Third Coast Fiction Prize, will appear in Third Coast Magazine's issue in 2026.

At MacDowell, Yancy worked on a new book-length piece of auto-fiction about a mother and son on holiday in London.

Melissa Yancy worked in the Chapman studio.

Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance…
