Miranda Ingram Agnew is a trumpet player and composer-improviser based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work emphasizes collectivity, experimenting with structure and orchestration in order to strongly center the personalities of her collaborators.
Her compositions are featured on her debut album with the band ETM, released on Tidebloom records. She was named a Next Jazz Legacy Semifinalist in 2023, and has performed internationally at venues including Roulette (NYC), Jamboree (Barcelona), and the Nash (Phoenix, AZ).
While at MacDowell, Agnew co-composed a set of pieces with collaborator Katie Webster for a sextet of improvisers consisting of voice, alto saxophone, trumpet, cello, bass, and drums. They designed a compositional process centered on intentional collaboration and the unique musical personalities within their ensemble. This approach was also shaped by personal reflections on the work and stories of community artists who incorporate textiles into their practice.
