Morgan Thomas is a writer from the Gulf Coast. Their first book, Manywhere, a collection of Southern trans histories, was a finalist for the LA Times Art Seidenbaum Award, Lambda Literary's Transgender Fiction Award, and other awards. Their work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Paris Review, American Short Fiction, and elsewhere.

At MacDowell, Thomas completed edits for Mad Eden, a novel about late-diagnosed autism, gender-affirming care, queer family, and dragons to be published with MCD-FSG in 2026. They also wrote a substantial portion of a rough draft for a new novel, as yet untitled. Finally, they edited a short story "Saprobe," which will appear in the second edition of Elastic Magazine.

Morgan Thomas worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
