Natalia Almada is a 2012 MacArthur “Genius” fellow and two-time recipient of the Sundance Documentary Directing Award for El General in 2009 and Users in 2021, Natalia Almada's directing credits include–Todo lo demás (New York Film Festival 2016), El Velador (Cannes 2011), Al Otro Lado (Tribeca 2005) and All Water has a Perfect Memory (Sundance 2002). She lives in Mexico City and San Francisco.

Throughout her many MacDowell Fellowships, Almada has worked on and then completed El General, a documentary about her family history in Mexico; completed El Velador, which then premiered at New Directors/New Films at MOMA and Lincoln Center in March 2011, and was broadcasted on PBS' POV in 2012; worked on script for her first fiction film, Todo lo demás (Everything Else), to be shot in Mexico City in 2014, and then made significant progress editing during her next stay.

Natalia Almada worked in the Mansfield studio.

The Helen Coolidge Mansfield Studio was donated by graduates of the Mansfield War Service Classes for Reconstruction Aides. Helen Mansfield helped found the New York MacDowell Club. The small, shingled frame structure with stone foundation was originally fronted on the west side by a neat white picket fence and gate, a garden, and a stone pathway…
