Nate Chinen spent a dozen years covering jazz for The New York Times and helmed a long-running column for JazzTimes. Since 2017 he has been the director of editorial content at WBGO, working with the multiplatform program "Jazz Night in America" and contributing a range of coverage to NPR Music.

He has received multiple honors from the Jazz Journalists Association, including the Helen Dance-Robert Palmer Award for Review and Feature Writing and Best Book About Jazz, for Myself Among Others: A Life in Music, which he wrote with George Wein.

While at MacDowell he worked on a book, Playing Changes: Jazz For the New Century (Pantheon, August 2018).

Mansfield

Nate Chinen worked in the Mansfield studio.

The Helen Coolidge Mansfield Studio was donated by graduates of the Mansfield War Service Classes for Reconstruction Aides. Helen Mansfield helped found the New York MacDowell Club. The small, shingled frame structure with stone foundation was originally fronted on the west side by a neat white picket fence and gate, a garden, and a stone pathway…
