Navied Mahdavian has been a New Yorker cartoonist and writer since 2018. His work has also been published in Readers Digest, Wired, and Alta Online, and in the cartoon collections Send Help (2021) and The Best of the Rejection Collection (2022).

Before becoming a cartoonist, he received his M.Ed. from Stanford University and taught the 5th grade, where he learned most of his jokes. Mahdavian will be an artist-in-residence at the La Napoule Art Foundation in Cannes, France in October 2022.

During his MacDowell Fellowship in 2022, he completed his debut graphic memoir, This Country, about his three years in rural Idaho. It was released in Fall 2023 by Princeton Architectural Press.

Mixter

Navied Mahdavian worked in the Mixter studio.

Built in 1927–1930, the Florence Kilpatrick Mixter Studio was funded by its namesake and designed by the architect F. Winsor, Jr., who also designed MacDowell's original Savidge Library in 1925. Mixter Studio, solidly built of yellow and grey-hued granite, once had sweeping views of Pack Monadnock to the east. The lush forest has now grown…
