nicHi douglas is a Brooklyn-based experimental artist and educator working on a psychedelic funk-driven adaptation of a George Bernard Shaw short story, as well as the choreography for a dance-theatre piece/tantrum about their experience at an elite all-girls private Catholic school in suburban New Jersey.

douglas is a 2025 OBIE Award winner for directing and choreographing their own original work called (pray), which was an Ars Nova and National Black Theatre co-production that premiered in 2023.

At MacDowell, douglas spent their time researching and developing a movement vocabulary for their new dance piece entitled ONLY I. They’re currently is in-residence at HERE Arts Center to complete and present ONLY I over the next two to three years. They also continued work on their new psychedelic funk play.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
