Nikhil Eapen is an Indian journalist and nonfiction writer whose work focuses on human rights and environmental issues. His writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Caravan, The Hindu, Scroll.in, and other publications. He has led investigative projects on forced labor and authored reports for Amnesty International, the International Labour Organization, and Equidem.

At MacDowell, Eapen continued work on his debut, nonfiction, yet-to-be-titled book project about the Asian Vulture Crisis, completing the book proposal and the first chapter. Generously supported by the Logan Nonfiction Program and South Asia Speaks fellowships, the book is an account of the near-extinction of vultures in South Asia and the serious ecological and cultural consequences of their decline.

Funded by Alpha Chi Omega, a national fraternity founded in 1885, Star Studio — built in 1911–1912 — was the first studio given to the residency by an outside organization.
