Nini Berndt is a graduate of the M.F.A. program in fiction at the University of Florida. Her short fiction has appeared in One Story, The Southampton Review, Subtropics, Split Lip, Adroit, Passages North, and elsewhere. Her debut novel, There Are Reasons for This, was published in June 2025. She teaches at Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver, where she lives with her wife and son.
At MacDowell, Berndt made significant progress on her second novel, tentatively titled Sable Be Good.

The Helen Coolidge Mansfield Studio was donated by graduates of the Mansfield War Service Classes for Reconstruction Aides. Helen Mansfield helped found the New York MacDowell Club.
