Paulo Carneiro was born in Lisbon and raised in Pontinha (a suburb). He graduated in Sound and Image from ESAD.CR and holds a Master’s degree from the National Film School (ESTC) and HEAD – Genève (Switzerland). In 2018, he directed his first film, Bostofrio, Où Le Ciel Rejoint La Terre, which received multiple awards and was screened at over 40 international film festivals worldwide. In 2019, it was acclaimed by critics as one of the “Top 10 Films of the Year” by Jornal Público. Bostofrio has reached more than a million viewers globally through festivals, television, cinemas, streaming platforms, and more. His film Périphérique Nord premiered at Visions du Réel in 2022 and Savanna And The Mountain premiered at Directors’ Fortnight.
At MacDowell, Carneiro worked on the script and the visual and sound structure of his upcoming feature film, Sónia Vai. He focused on rewriting, revising, and advancing the script, and developed the shot-planning study through photographs and drawings to explore the film’s visual composition. He also reworked the editing for his film My Land My Strength.
