Sara Hay was the author of six books of poetry. She began her writing career in New York in the 1930's. Her poetry was published in The Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, Saturday Review, and other magazines. In 1952 the Poetry Society of America presented her with its Edna St. Vincent Millay Memorial Award for her book The Delicate Balance, and in 1960 she received the Pegasus Award for The Stone and the Shell. She was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from Columbia University.
