Sophiya Khwaja is a visual artist and Fulbright fellow, now based in the UAE. Trained in printmaking, with an M.F.A. from RISD, her current practice unfolds through drawing and mixed media on paper. Extending her work beyond the studio, she has recently authored and illustrated a limited-edition risograph children’s book, published by Full Special Studio in Abu Dhabi. Khwaja is a proud mom to a little boy, two cats and dog, and has recently taken to producing electronic music in her free time.
At MacDowell, Khwaja completed her project, Taste of Thought and Memory, one that she had been working on for the past year and a half. Parts of the project have previously been shown in the group show 'Fictional Landscapes' at the Foundry, Dubai and 'Dharti Dhar Dhar Dharke' at COMO Museum of Art Pakistan. She plans on showing the complete series in its entirety in the latter half of 2026.
