Susan Werner has been a photographer since 1980, and a still life photographer working with both found and constructed objects since 1989. She has exhibited in Rhode Island at the Wheeler Gallery (Providence), the Hera Gallery (Wakefield), the H. White Gallery (Barrington), and at the Bristol Art Museum. Exhibitions at other venues include The Print Center in Philadelphia, PA, and abroad in Rome, Italy. During the years Werner lived in Rome, she taught photography for Temple University Rome, and for Cornell University’s Program in Rome, and was a visiting artist for the Rhode Island School of Design’s European Honors Program. In 2004 she received a Merit Award from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.

The Graphics Studio (as it was originally named) was converted to its present use in 1972–1974 through a grant from the Putnam Foundation, and originally served the property as both a power house and pump house.
