Yewen Dong is from Shenzhen, a coastal city in China. She received her M.F.A. in ceramics from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017 (SAIC), and a B.A. from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. Her practice incorporates drawing, installation, ceramics, papermaking, and video. She has presented her work at the Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita; American Museum of Ceramic Art, California; Society for Contemporary Craft, Pennsylvania; and Officine Saffi, Italy.

While at MacDowell, Yewen worked on a series of unfired clay drawings for installation.

Yewen Dong worked in the Firth studio.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956.
