Jodie Mack Creates Collaborative Animation with ConVal Students
Returning Fellow Jodie Mack ('21, '25) made her second visit to ConVal High School on December 12th, her first visit having taken place four years ago.
She worked with 17 students and two adults in a 3D Studio Art class, introducing participants to her animation practice through a selection of short films and a concise, evidence-based history of animation. After learning foundational animation principles and exploring how movement can be created using simple tools, students experimented with recreating elements of Mack’s current project, drawing inspiration from George Inness’s Early Morning, Tarpon Springs.
Their interpretations became an evolving, collective archive of re-creations, linking the students’ work to Mack’s ongoing artistic process. These individual pieces were ultimately compiled into a collaborative animation, giving students firsthand experience in transforming still images into moving art.
