The Walden School Visits MacDowell
On July 24, MacDowell welcomed 32 students from The Walden School, along with three instructors, for their annual visit.
Hailing from around the world, the group gathered in the James Baldwin Library where resident director David Macy introduced them to MacDowell’s history and mission, shared what a residency offers artists, and highlighted connections between MacDowell and the composers the students have studied or worked with through Walden. The young composers showed attentiveness and curiosity about the happenings at MacDowell.
Following David’s talk, composers and MacDowell Fellows Keith Fitch and Alyssa Weinberg gave presentations, offering insight into their creative practices. The visit concluded with a walk to the newly renovated Alexander Studio, giving students a glimpse of the spaces where Fellows live and work during their time at MacDowell.
