MacDowell Fellow, author Chavisa Woods currently serves as the Executive Director of Gathering of the Tribes (AGOTT); a nonprofit literary and art organization, founded by Steve Cannon in 1991.
A prominent installation, celebrating the history of A Gathering of the Tribes is currently featured in The Whitney Biennial 2022: “Quiet as It’s Kept."
This installation was created in collaboration with Whitney curator, Adrienne Edwards, AGOTT"s Executive Director, Chavisa Woods, Special Projects Manager, Tracie Dawn Williams, and AGOTT long-time Board Member and renowned artist, David Hammons, celebrating the life's work of the incomparable artist, author, community builder, mentor and iconic avant-guardian, Steve Cannon.
