MacDowell Welcomes Two Distinguished Individuals to its Board of Directors

MacDowell is proud to announce the election of two new members to its Board of Directors. These distinguished individuals bring a wealth of expertise and diversity of perspectives to the all-volunteer board, which is dedicated to steering one of the nation’s premier contemporary arts institutions into the future. Headed by Board President Christine Fisher, the board encompasses a broad spectrum of interests and knowledge.

The Board of Directors voted unanimously in April to elect the two new members, Phillip Howze and Tania Carnegie. They were welcomed by the MacDowell staff and board in a series of events corresponding with MacDowell’s Medal Day on June 29, 2025.

Phillip Howze is a Brooklyn-based writer, educator, and theater maker whose works include Six Characters (Lincoln Center Theater/LCT3), Self Portraits Deluxe (BRIC-Arts Media), and Frontieres Sans Frontieres (Bushwick Starr). He’s currently writing new commissions for the American Repertory Theater and Playwrights Horizons. Phillip is a trustee of BRIC Arts-Media and serves as the inaugural Associate Senior Lecturer at Harvard University’s Theater, Dance and Media program.

Tania Carnegie is the Head of Ultra High Net Worth Banking at CIBC Private Wealth U.S., with over 20 years of leadership in financial services, private equity, and asset management. Formerly a Partner at KPMG U.S., she led ESG initiatives and served as the firm’s first Chief Impact Officer. Tania also served as Lady-in-Waiting to The Duchess of Edinburgh and was appointed to the Royal Victorian Order. She holds an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

The MacDowell Board of Directors is composed of 47 volunteer members representing a broad spectrum of professional and artistic backgrounds. Its members support MacDowell’s mission and values  and champion MacDowell Fellows, ensuring the vitality of a residency program that annually hosts 300 creators working across multiple disciplines, selected through a highly competitive process.
