Filmmaker Affonso Uchôa has received more than 30 awards in film festivals all over the world. His body of work will be presented in a retrospective organized by Asunción Contemporary Cinema Film Festival (Paraguay) in October 2023.

His first film, Mulher À Tarde (Afternoon Woman, 2010) screened at Mostra de Tiradentes and Semana dos Realizadores, among other film festivals in Brazil. He directed A Vizinhança Do Tigre (The Hidden Tiger, 2014), which won the first prize at Mostra de Tiradentes, screened internationally, and was shown at film institutions such as the Cinematheque Française, Barbican Centre, and Anthology Film Archive.

He is the co-director of the award-winning film Arábia, which premiered at Tiger’s Competition at Rotterdam International Film Festival in 2017 and was screened in more than 60 film festivals around the globe. His most recent film, Sete Anos Em Maio (Seven Years in May, 2019), premiered at 2019’s Visions du Reel and received awards at the 2019 editions of Indielisboa, Filmadrid, Festival do Rio, and 10 other festivals.

At MacDowell, Uchôa worked on the editing of the film Discipline (planned to release in 2023) and on the script for 2019 (planned to release in 2024), both film projects he is directing. 'Discipline' is planned to be ready in the end of 2023 and launched in film festivals in the following year. '2019' is planned to be shot at the end of 2024.

Given to the residency by the Monday Music Club of Orange, NJ, Monday Music Studio is sited next to an enormous boulder deposited by glaciers thousands of years ago.
